You can throw an item (except for potions because they will break) into the Well of Awareness to identify them You receive fewer experience points when you push a mob into a chasm You can throw your things at chasms and it will be on the lower floor. Additionally, if you examine it, there will be a hint that it is a mimic chest. Mimic chests move their mouth and will go out of sight if it is in the fog of war.
